The Senate Bill No. 1438 was filed by Senator Vicente Sotto III seeking to move the opening of classes from August to September.
According to the law, the opening of classes in the country shall happen on the first Monday of June but not later than the last day of August. This bill filed by Sotto will seek to amend this following the approval of the President to the recommendation of the IATF to move the opening of classes in September.
Sotto further explained that the Department of Education should consider the month of September since the IATF-IED based their recommendation to the studies they conducted which show that people aged 20 years old below can play a major role in transmitting the virus even faster.
Senator Joel Villanueva also filed the same type of bill to postpone the opening of classes under the declaration of the state of calamity.
