As parents or guardians, it is our responsibility to monitor and control the use of electronic gadgets and online activities of our children especially those who are too young to use it. Now, that we are entering the new normal in education, many of our learners in the country may be asked to engage in online classes or even accomplish educational tasks online.
In this regard, DepEd encourages parents/guardians to be strict in letting their children use electronic gadgets and be in control over their online activities which oftentimes include the use of social media platforms. Hence, DepEd enumerates below the main reasons why we should discourage the use of social media for children or learners.
1. It can put the learners' privacy at risk.
2. It may open doors for cyber-bullying, identity theft, online gambling, pornography, and market fraud that can cause self-isolation, humiliation, and trauma.
3. Social media content may distract the learners and affect their study habits.
Kaya po meron tayong sariling online platform na ginagamit para sa edukasyon ng ating mga learners. Ang DepEd Commons ay isang ligtas na learning platform na puro educational materials lamang ang laman. Pero kailangan ay gabayan pa rin natin ang ating mga anak sa paggamit ng internet para hindi sila mapunta sa mga websites na naglalaman ng mga hindi naaangkop na materyal.
