Essential Skills for Early Literacy Development

Developing literacy skills early in a child's life is crucial for their academic and personal growth. Here are five fundamental skills that can lay a strong foundation for early literacy:

1. Phonemic Awareness

• Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds—phonemes—in spoken words. It is an essential skill that helps children understand that words are made up of sounds, which is critical for learning to read and spell.
• Activities to Enhance Phonemic Awareness:
• Rhyming Games: Encouraging children to find words that rhyme.
• Sound Matching: Identifying words that start with the same sound.

2. Alphabet Knowledge

• Knowing the names and shapes of letters is another core component of literacy. Children should be able to recognize both uppercase and lowercase letters and understand their corresponding sounds.

3. Vocabulary Development
